CIGA design x Label Noir

Co-create a timepiece born from a shared fascination with the cosmos. As the successor to the award-winning Blue Planet, which celebrated Earth's beauty, Black Star shifts its gaze outward—into the unknown. It explores contrast: from life to void, balance to gravity, the familiar to the infinite.

At the center of the dial, an 8.50mm Super Black pit evokes a black hole,
absorbing light like time collapsing in space. Around it, spiral-painted stars in blue and white trace
the motion of a distant galaxy. Above, a luminous polar-star hand orbits silently,
guiding a direction that defies gravity and forges its own way.

What began as a conversation between two design philosophies became a
year-long co-creation that reimagined time. CIGA design,
with its aesthetics-driven mechanics, partnered with Label Noir, whose monochrome language speaks through
contrast and subtlety. Together, we crafted
Black Star—a timepiece reflecting the vastness of space and the possibility of collaboration.
It marks a new chapter in independent watchmaking,
where design transcends categories and every detail is intentional.

A Dial Shaped by Cosmic Tension

The dial of Black Star is a miniature universe forged through precision.
A black hole–inspired pit, CNC-machined and coated in light-absorptive Super Black creates a void. Around it, wisps of blue and scattered white stars trace the motion of a distant galaxy.
A luminous polar-star hand orbits above, guiding time through the darkness.

CNC Micro-Machining

Diamond-tipped 0.07mm tools carve each dial with nanometer precision over a 6-hour engraving process.

Super Black Coating

Light-absorbing pigment achieves 99% absorption, creating a pure black, non-reflective central pit.

Surface Hardening

PEO (Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation) treatment enhances hardness, durability, and corrosion resistance.

Color & Lume Printing

CMYK gradient printing forms a spiral galaxy; markers and polar star use luminescent pigment for night visibility.

CIGA design’s Iconic Asynchronous-follow Technology

Powered by the Swiss-made CD-04-S caliber—an evolved version of the original Blue Planet I movement—this timepiece blends precision engineering with reliable performance. Its reconfigured gear ratios enable the hour gear to turn 30° as the dynamic minute ring rotates 390°, all from a single point of reference. This unconventional display challenges traditional watchmaking and delivers a uniquely intuitive experience on the wrist.

Lightweight, Resilient, Otherworldly

Crafted from Grade 2 titanium, the round case delivers impressive strength-to-weight performance—durable yet comfortably lightweight. A DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating enhances scratch resistance and lends a sleek, deep-black finish that echoes the dial’s cosmic aesthetic. Brushed finishing adds texture and softly diffuses light across every contour.

2022

The Blue Planet I entered the permanent collection of the Geneva Museum of Art and History. CIGA design gained global recognition, with The New York Times praising its innovation.

2021

Amid the growing call for a shared future for humanity, the first "Blue Planet" was launched with the Earth’s iconic blue. It won the Challenge Watch Prize at the 19th Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in the same year.

2019

Focusing on Earth as the foundation of time perception, the first "Blue Planet" generation was introduced, making history by being shortlisted for the GPHG Challenge Watch Prize.

2013

Drawing inspiration from sundials, the prototype of the "Blue Planet" "single-hand watch" was unveiled. It featured innovative “asynchronous-follow movement technology" and won the Red Dot: Best of the Best Award the same year.
